331- The End of an Era

This afternoon was the last of the conference match-ups between the Cougars and the Utes... they will still play each other during the season, but won't be in the same conference.

It was an outstanding game- BYU Defense kept the Utes scoreless for the first half... but then a series of errors caused the game to unravel and ultimately lost by one point when the game winning field goal was successfully blocked by a small Ute player.  Way to go Utes!  But I was rooting for the Cougars, of course.

058- Cougar B-ball

I got to experience another 1st today! We went to see the BYU Cougars play the New Mexico Lobos. I haven't been to a basketball game since I was in high school! Frankly, basketball has always been just too LOUD! So today you could find me with my trusty Mack's earplugs!

It was a fun game with never more than a 5 point spread! But in the end the Lobos topped the Cougars by 2.

BYU vs UTAH... grudge match!

The ultimate grudge match of the Mountain West Conference kicked off at about 4:15pm today. It had all the promise of a good game... and it was a good game. Good in so many ways, try 12,000,000 of them, dollars! Yup, that is what the MWC gets to split from the BCS. (Do you really think I understand any of this except the $12 million part? Think again! I just know what I'm told.)

This grudge match becomes very personal in my family with 2 UofU graduates and 2 from BYU. There is plenty of good natured razzing that goes on. Apparently this match-up has been going on since the late 1800's!! (In general, not in my family!) I just went looking for some photos online and found out that this whole grudge match is dubbed the Holy War and is featured at Wikipedea.

So am I ever going to get to the point? Sadly, yes, BYU got taken to the woodshed and given quite a whoopin!!! BYU 24 - U of U 48. (I think perhaps only Max Hall should be taken to the woodshed this time. Poor Maxie did NOT have a good game.

Just remember the $$$... I just keep telling myself that!

Brigham Stung

(I wish I could take credit for that clever little title, but I can't. I'm borrowing it from Fox News.)

We watched their humiliating loss to TCU last night. TCU came out with an agenda and they achieved it. They scored TWICE in the first few minutes of the first quarter. What a disappointing game. The sports-dudes proclaimed that this was the end of the longest winning streak in history. (BYU lost 32-7) It wasn't quite as bad as what BYU did to UCLA, but it still wasn't a pretty sight!

The only thing I have to add is this, "If they can't play any better than that, they don't deserve to win." (As far as I know that IS a Joanie original!)

All of those adjectives and any others you can think of pretty much describe what the BYU Cougars just did to the UCLA Bruins. This is the 3rd match-up between these two teams in the last 370 days. The Cougars bested the Bruins in the last two games... but, well, today's game was a thing of beauty!

Am I a Cougar fan? Oh, you betcha! Rah-rah-rah-rah-rah! Gooooooooooooo... COUGARS!
