Mutton-Head Sort of Day

Bwahaha!

Yes, at this point it is a lamb sort of day. It is 73*. The windows are open and the sound of beagles baying is wafting in through them. (Which contributes to the mutton-head quality of the day!)

But already I see the forecasted storm clouds moving in. But seeing as how we've had six flawless spring days in a row I won't complain!

Lion-Day

I've always liked to keep track of the *March comes in like a lion- out like a lamb* thing. But it has only been since I started keeping a blog that I've really been able to remember 31 days later what the 1st of March was like!

This year, 2013, is an OFFICIAL LION DAY! All you have to do is look at the sky! But then we can add insult to injury-

A view of the side of my house, looking north (with Maple Mt wreathed in clouds)...

And the front of my house, looking south...

See that berm of snow to the right of my mail box?  That is the pile 15' beyond the mailbox that ate Fernando!  AND IT IS STILL HERE!  We may still have snow in June! Not really, but sometimes it feels that way...

So what of previous years?

2009- Lamb all the way; 62 degrees!
2010- Lamb day as well; high in the 50s!
2011- Lamb day again! Sunny and warm.
2012- A Lion-sort of day! 3" of new snow on top of 12" ( we got most of last winter's snow in March! and we were glad of it.)

80-degree Lamb Day

I remembered last night as I was getting ready for bed that I hadn't recorded my *very scientifical results* about March and the whole Lamb/Lion thing.

This was definitely a SOFT AND FLUFFY LAMB DAY! A-break-all-the-records-for-highest-temperature-in-Utah-in-March-DAY!

Can you believe how beautiful it is? That's my sweet little house with Maple Mountain as the back drop!

Of course, you must know also that this morning's (4/2/12) low temperature was 26 degrees! Yep, that's how we roll here in Utah... it's called

THE WARM BEFORE THE STORM!

Lion Sort of Day

For some [OCD] reason I've always liked to keep track of March's lamb and lion days. I remember doing this as a child... but usually couldn't remember 31 days later what the weather was like on the 1st!

BUT... since I've kept my photo blog I do lots better!

I judge that today is definitely a LION SORT OF DAY!

So what of previous years?

2009- Lamb all the way; 62 degrees!
2010- Lamb day as well; high in the 50s!
2011- Lamb day again! Sunny and warm.

Hmmmm... so what's up with this year?

1- A Lam-bie Day

March showed her happy lam-bie face this day. I love the month of March with all of her extremely severe mood swings... so this day a taste of spring... right inside on my kitchen window sill.

BTW- I got this sweet plant from my daughter-in-law, Suzi, a year ago. Is it an African Violet?

090- D-d-d-def-initely A Lion Sort of Day!

Yes, definitely a lion sort of day. March started nice and sheepish! But it's had sever mood swings all month long. But there is nothing new with that. Monday and Tuesday we had highs at 68 and 70 and this morning... SNOW!

I'd ask, "What's up with that?" I already know... it is spring, in the mountains. Is there anywhere in the world where spring isn't full-on mood swings?

090- lion day

Of course after a couple of weeks with highs in the 50's and a couple of days in the 60's my crazy early-bird-apricot tree is in full bloom... I suppose it will just have to wait and see if they will get frozen off this year. Sad.

090- A [dandy]LION sort of day...

Remember way back on March 1st when I declared it a LAMB day? Boy howdy, have we every had the mood-swings of March this month! We've had lovely spring days which encouraged my apricot tree to bloom and heavy snow days which battered those same little blossoms (which fortunately seem to still be hanging on! I'm hoping for more apricot-y goodness this summer.)

So today, being March 31st, I thought I'd try to determine what sort of day this is. I've decided that it is a [dandy] Lion sort of day! We have an overcast sky, melting snow, high of 50, some breezes and a few hardy little plants that are showing their happy faces in spite of the mood-swing weather! (And you know what? But the time I get to this point in Utah winters I pretty much mood-swing right along with the weather.)

090- [dandy]lion

I took a little walkie around my backyard and found other signs of imminent spring. My old-fashioned lacey lilacs are in bud... I can hardly wait!

090- lilac buds

These hardy little violets pop up in the grass all spring and summer. I just love them. It wasn't until I uploaded the photos that I realized that I also have a photo of a swine-ant (close relative of the swine-deer) climbing on one of the stems (I just can't like ants!)

060- Lamb or Lion?

When I was a little girl I always liked to try to keep track of March and its Lamb and Lion reputation. The theory was that if it came in like a Lamb it would then go out like a Lion or visa-versa. My problem was that I usually couldn't remember at the end of the month what the weather was on the first of the month... so much for long term memory!

But this year I proclaim that in Springville it is a very lamb-like day. It is 62 degrees again... I could get used to this!

So what sort of day is it in your neck of the woods?
