Roxie's Special Dress

Roxie just turned 8 and, in keeping with tradition, I told her I would make her baptism dress. Part of the fun of this tradition is that said granddaughter and Grammie go shopping together to pick out fabric and a pattern. I showed Roxie my progress and she was still marveling at 3rd Sunday Grammie-dinner how she could choose just what she wanted.

I finished it up today. And it is so Roxie!

I love how her personality shows through in her choices.

I truly enjoy sewing something special for my littles. I even got to learn a new technique (thank you Pinterest!)

I will be back in a couple of weeks with photos of my darling girl in her special dress.

PS... If you'd like to see Ashton's dress go here.

240- Christian's Special Day

Today our sweet little grandson, Christian was baptized; what a special day! I am so glad that we are close enough for us to be with him today.

When Ashton was baptized I made her a special white baptism dress. As we anticipated Christian's baptism I asked him if there was anything he would like me to make for him: a vest or something. He wasn't sure so he said he'd get back to me. He called a few days later and exclaimed, "Grammie, I would like a pink tie please!" He was also given a suit by a kind neighbor. He looks stylin'!

Christian also asked me if I would lead the music for his baptism program. I gladly accepted! I was pretty sure that Ashton would be the pianist and she was. How many 10-year old girls (or boys, for that matter) can sit down and play anything in the Primary hymn book? She is awesome and was a lovely accompanist; which we all know is much harder than just playing the piano.

The minute Ashton started to play the opening song I started to cry. Sorry Jess. The Spirit was just so strong.

Namma and I share these wonderful children and grandchildren... what a blessing. But poor Namma is literally flat-on-her-back with deteriorating vertebrae and herniated disks. She's been in bed for the last 3 months. I just can't like that!

I got to hold baby-Sophie as we passed her around. She has got the fattest, squishiest thighs on the plant. Namma wants to know why that doesn't look so appealing on girls our age.

I couldn't resist capturing Christian's kickin' old-man eyebrows!

And this shot... it makes me cry. Doug (our little my-my-my-Dougie) broke both bones in his arm just above the wrist and needed his Daddy's assistance tying his tie.

What a wonderful blessing to be able to gather with our family and celebrate these special times.

256- Brock's Special Day

Today was a doubly special day for Brock! Not only was it his birthday, but it was his baptism day! What a special treat! Not too many people can say that they were baptized ON their birthday!

After the regular church meetings today many of his friends stayed to witness his baptism. Brock even invited some of his friends who don't belong to our church and they came. I was so proud of him that he would want his friends to be there and realize how important he feels this day is to him.

We had a beautiful meeting and the Spirit was strong in testifying that Brock was making the right choice. During the closing song I could feel Tony, Amanda, Grammy and Grampy there with us for this wonderful family experience. I am so grateful to know that they are still so close loving and supporting us from the other side of the veil.

Ashton's Day to Shine

One of the best parts about our move to Utah 3 years ago is that we are now closer to some of our grandchildren (unfortunately, the others are all much too far away!)

Last August as we anticipated Ashton's baptism I asked her if she would like me to make her second white dress. (There is a poem about "my 3 white dresses"- blessing, baptism and wedding). She was very excited at the prospect of having some input into this second white dress. We went to JoAnn's Fabrics one day and looked at all the pattern books until she found the dress that just suited her. It is interesting, if I had been choosing, I would have gone frilly, but Ashton knows her style, and well, she just isn't a frilly! She choose a darling two-piece dress with princess lines in the bodice and big Renaissance bell-sleeves.

The day of her baptism it snowed and it made the perfect backdrop for her photo-op! She danced and twirled in the snow for the camera. It was wonderful to be with her on her special day.

I love the fact that I can be a real part of my grandchildren's live... that is the joy of being a grandparent.
